Facial Expressions - Discovery Education for Autism

http://www.do2learn.com/games/facialexpressions/face.htm

This website is a great discovery tool for autistic students to experiment with the components of facial expressions and emotions. With this website, the student can adjust a decent amount of the facial features in addition to just selecting an emotion to watch. This could help students to recognize specific elements of emotions that they may be missing.

Syntax - Ever wonder why words go in that order?

http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/adjectives.htm

This website explains the nitty gritties of language that sometimes elude our students and seem impossible for us to teach. A lot of these concepts are grasped intuitively and even native speakers are unaware of the rules that govern the syntax. "That's just the way it is" we say. Well... not so much.

This might be particularly useful for ELL students.

Interactive Online English Games website

http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/interactive/literacy.html#9

The site has a TON of English games for just about anything in the construction of the English language. Most of the games focus on word training (spelling, decoding, word parts) and other reading basics. This could be useful for elementary or lower level middle school students in SPED.

Take care of the world AND your vocab!

http://www.freerice.com/

This website is amazing!! They have a variety of games to play for many subjects: English, Math, Science, Geography, and even foreign language! Playing the games helps donate free rice to hungry people (as the name suggests). Below is a snippet from their "about us" section on their webpage.

"About FreeRice
FreeRice is a non-profit website run by the United Nations World Food Programme.
FreeRice has two goals:
  • Provide education to everyone for free.
  • Help end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free.
This is made possible by the generosity of the sponsors who advertise on this site.
Whether you are CEO of a large corporation or a street child in a poor country, improving your education can improve your life. It is a great investment in yourself.
Perhaps even greater is the investment your donated rice makes in hungry human beings, enabling them to function and be productive. Somewhere in the world, a person is eating rice that you helped provide."
